How Jacob joined the Miele team – and flourished!
What is your career journey to where you are now with Miele?
Right out of school I decided I wanted to pursue a family themed journey into Mechanical Engineering, I studied for 3 years at Abingdon & Witney College and left with a Level 2 qualification in Mechanics, alongside my studying I worked part time at Next as a sale advisor, as much as I enjoyed mechanics I wanted to explore a career in sales and went to work for a local double glazing company as a self employed sales person, it was here I found a love for the sales world and dealing with consumers on a day to basis, I stayed in sales for 3 years until I had an opportunity to pursue somewhat of a childhood dream…
A few years of professional golf coaching and playing tournaments, I found I missed the business world and I wanted to be challenged in a way I didn’t feel golf could, I spent a lot of time researching companies, studying their values and their ambitions, it was then when I discovered Miele.
Miele made sense, as a premium company with a long family run mentality that valued it’s employees, the planet and their consumer,.
I applied via indeed for a role in 2018 and I’ve since worked within more than 10 departments at Miele since joining, building up a broad range of skills and knowledge of how our business operates.
Today I work within our Marketing department as the Laundry Brand Manager where I’m responsible for driving our in year laundry activation and execution.
What made you want to join Miele in Marketing?
I had worked in sales for Miele for 2 ½ years as a national business development manager which I thoroughly enjoyed, I wanted to challenge myself in moving into marketing and understanding the why behind direction, I’ve always felt that Marketing is the core of how we delight a consumer, the stories, the inspiration & the connection between ourselves and our customers.
I wanted to be a part of creating a link between us and our consumers, it’s an incredibly rewarding area to work in within Miele, taking a simple idea developing it into an action and delivering it into the world is invaluable.
What do you like most about working at Miele GB?
Miele to me says a number of things, family, quality, sustainability, trust & never settling for it’s good enough, it’s hard to choose one.
I’ve had the pleasure of working for Miele for 5 years now and there hasn’t been a single day where I’ve felt disconnected from any of these, I personally have a keen interest in sustainability and how we can reduce our impact on the environment, Miele too shares this strong value and it’s incredibly warming to be able to collaborate with my colleagues on how we can tackle this matter together, sustainability is at the forefront of the Miele business and I take great pride in working for a company that wants to leave a positive impact on the world.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of joining Miele
I would say if you’re someone who’s looking to leave their mark then Miele is set up to help you achieve that, the business today has strong ambitions and is ever evolving, I’ve been able to work across the business building experiences in many areas which I’ve always been pushed toward so if you have the right mindset the possibilities are endless, you’ll need the drive and be hungry to take the opportunity, but you will not be in lack of recognition and a rewarding career.
